Cups, unstuck…
On occasion, cups can get stuck together. We order tens of thousands, and it is never more than 10s, so we choose not to change our packing methods, as the ‘solution ‘ will be to pack each individual unit in its own plastic bag, and we won’t accept this.
Below are three methods that we use to release them. We haven’t failed yet, although some test even the strongest separation ninjas (a.k.a. my husband and son!).
Whack ‘em
This is the least finessed of the options, but can work a treat. Also indicated for frustrations of other kinds. (*does not condone violence).
Ideally, place the body of the cups on a chopping board. Let the rolled lip dangle over the edge so that this does not take the force.
Whack the cups with a rolling pin. They are steel, strong and are robust enough to take a mighty twack. Whack, roll a quarter, whack again, roll a quarter… again, and (*er) again.
Roll ‘em
Again, line up the cup so that the body is on the board and the lip is hanging off. Use a flat piece of wood pressing down on the body of the cup, under the rim, and roll side to side whilst pressing down on it.
Lever ‘em
Using a steel bottle opener, or similar device as shown, line up edge between the rims of the stuck cups. Twist, and lever rims apart.
…and if that doesn’t work
We’ll credit you for them immediately, send you more if you need them, and get them back from you when/if it is reasonable to courier them. We end of life them with local scrap metal dealers. Steel is a valuable resource, and does not degrade on reforming.
