Alternate option:
Again Again, integrated with single-use cups
getting rid of any Single use cups is good.
Single use cups are a scourge on our community. Anything that you can do to get rid of them is amazing.
Getting rid of them entirely is better, but we are happy to support cafes who want to start slow and offer Again Again as an option rather than a default.
The value that you and your customers will get from Again Again will depend on how much your team gets behind it, and how much your customers use it.
The more it is used, the greater impact you will see, and the more cost savings you will benefit from.
Impact
The collective action of Again Again cafes creates huge impact. Our conservative estimate is that we are diverting a minimum of 800,000 cups a year from landfill.
Most cafes find that Again Again replaces 15-20% of the single use cups they were purchasing. This is also about the break-even point. The more it is used though, the greater the impact and the greater the savings.
Going 100% maximises impact and will also save cafes the most money possible on running costs, cutting out all costs of SUCs.
Workflow
We will provide you with everything you need to set Again Again up in your cafe, and with training resources to help your team get on point.
It can be tricky to have the conversation needed to convert your customers to using a new system in the very short time you have at the counter. We have some resources to help with that.
We also encourage you to whack a charge on the single use cups. Money talks and this will incentivise your customers to make better choices.
We have developed a set of in-store and digital tools to help you get the message out. Take a look here.
Cost savings
If 15-20% of your customers choose Again Again, it’ll cost you about the same as you currently pay for the single use cups you currently purchase.
Crunch your own numbers here.
Not purchasing any SUCs at all is a massive saving.
(If you go 100%, you’ll save thousands… just saying.)
Sanitary workflows
For best practice public health actions
Post-COVID, there are valid concerns about droplets on personal reusable cups.
We agree* that returning cups of unknown cleanliness may have virus-ridden droplets on them, and you can’t have that in public serveries. We don’t agree that a return to using only single-use cups is any sort of solution to this. A return to only using SUCs uses one crisis to induce fear that exacerbates another one.
(*that’s not an opinion piece. It’s a fact.)
Here in Aotearoa New Zealand we have robust standards around sanitisation in cafes. If your cafe can serve safely in crockery, you can serve in Again Again cups. This has now been approved by the NZ government. We advise you to use our best-practice workflow for collecting the returned cups for re-sanitisation.
Customers using their personal reusable cups has also been approved, but it does require a significant alteration of workflow for the baristas to achieve contactless pours. Again Again is your most efficient and scalable, waste-free option for serving takeaway coffees.
So, to sum up…
We invite you to
Divert thousands of cups from landfill
Have a sanitised, wastefree option for your customers
It’ll cost you about what you pay now
